Parents often ask: “My child knows the subject well. Why aren’t they scoring?”
Knowing the Content Isn’t Enough. You Must Know How to Answer It Right!
This is especially true for Science PSLE Booklet B, where many parents and students face difficulties
- PSLE is not just about knowledge — it’s about how answers are structured and explained.
Here’s what PSLE examiners are looking for in Science PSLE Booklet B:
Specific KEYWORDS in Science Open-Ended Questions (OEQ)
Example question:
Tom bought some hot fries which was packed in a sealed paper bag. When he reached home, he observed that he fries were soggy and the insides of the paper bag was wet.
Explain why the fries were soggy. [2m]
Explain why the fries were soggy. [2m]
Answer:
The hot fries gave off hot water vapour. (1/2m)
The hot water vapour touches the cooler inner surface of the paper bag, loses heat and condenses into water droplets. (1/2m + 1/2m)
The water droplets drip onto the fries making it soggy. (1/2m)
Our tried and tested exam answering techniques, are designed to mirror how PSLE examiners assess responses — helping students score consistently higher.
Avoid losing marks due to incomplete or off-target answers!
The PSLE Science paper is not just a test of memory — it assesses a student’s ability to think scientifically, apply concepts, interpret data, and communicate answers clearly and correctly. Understanding the exam format is the first step to scoring AL1–AL3.
Here is a brief introduction on the Science Paper that students will inevitably have to face:
- 30 questions
- Each carries 2 marks
- Requires fast analytical thinking and concept clarity
- 10–11 structured and application questions
- Each question carry 2, 3, 4 or 5 marks
- Tests explanation skills, logical application & use of scientific terms
Students must complete and answer ALL questions across both booklets — time management is of paramount importance to provide on-point answers that demonstrate depth of understanding.
This format tests both knowledge and real understanding, meaning students who only memorise facts tend to struggle. PSLE is not a memorisation race, it's a trial of logic and understanding. We are here to sharpen your children’s prowess on that.
At Tanglin Education, we don’t just teach content — we transform how students THINK and ANSWER, which is critical for PSLE success.
Multiple Choice Mastery:
Our experts teach systematic methods and strategies that help students identify tested concepts fast, avoid traps, and choose the best answers confidently.
Open-Ended Excellence:
Our signature answering frameworks guide students to:
- Use precise science keywords or phrases in Open-Ended answers
- Back up answers with logical reasoning
- Structure answers clearly for full marks
Science answers must include the right keywords. Incomplete or vague responses lose marks — even if the idea is correct.
Every student learns how to:
- Allocate time effectively for each section
- Manage pressure
- Avoid careless errors through timed drills
We teach exam-smart habits, not just content memorisation — a difference that shows in results. This boosts confidence and accuracy — crucial in a section where many students lose easy marks.
